Neurostimulation in Atypical Neurodevelopment: a Harmonized Atlas
A comprehensive, curated resource of studies on Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation (NIBS) techniques in neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), providing structured information on stimulation modalities, target brain regions, study characteristics, and outcomes. It enables users to efficiently explore, compare, analyze, and visualize study data across therapeutic interventions, neurophysiological probing, and brain target area-specific NIBS applications.
Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) affect the development and functioning of the brain and can influence cognitive, behavioral, motor, and communication abilities. In recent years, Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation (NIBS) has gained increasing attention as a way to investigate brain function and modulate neural activity in individuals with NDDs. Different NIBS approaches have been explored for therapeutic purposes as well as for studying neurophysiological mechanisms. However, the available evidence is spread across a wide range of disorders, stimulation techniques, target regions, study designs, and outcome measures, making it difficult to access and compare systematically.
NANHA has been developed as a structured resource to bring this published literature together in one place. It includes curated information from 526 published NIBS studies covering both therapeutic interventions and neurophysiological probing. Users can access study characteristics, participant information, stimulation parameters, targeted brain regions, tasks and outcomes, neurophysiological changes, safety, and follow-up assessments. The database provides flexible search and filtering options based on NDDs, NIBS modalities, stimulation models, and target areas. An interactive 3D brain visualization is also included to support the exploration of targeted brain regions and their corresponding Brodmann areas, enabling researchers to efficiently examine, compare, and visualize the available evidence.
Altogether, NANHA aims to provide a freely accessible and structured resource for exploring the current evidence on NIBS in neurodevelopmental disorders and to facilitate research, comparison, and evidence synthesis.
